Infrequently Asked Questions 2012

Shame Full Frontal

People of the internet find Mild Concern through a wide variety of search terms and one of the more curious ways I spend my time is keeping an eye on what people Google to end up on this humble blog. I do feel sorry for a large number of Googlers when I can see that they aren’t going to find what they searched for here.

By far the most popular unsuccessful search the film fans of the world embarked on was trying to find some images of the nudity in Shame. They wanted to see Michael Fassbender and, to a lesser extent, Carey Mulligan in the all-together and were surely disappointed to find not a single bit of genitalia on display. I apologise to you, the internet, and to make it up to you I will now answer a selection of questions people entered into Google in 2012 which led them erroneously to Mild Concern. Now if they do their search again their questions will be answered.

All of these questions are genuine, and tell you a lot about the world today…

Is The Skin I Live In in English? No, it is in Spanish and is not for the squeamish.

How old is Yoda’s actor now? Frank Oz is 68.

Is that a wig? No, my hair is all natural.

Is there nudity in 388 Arletta Avenue? No. It does contain “one scene of strong gore and horror”.

How many times is “Harry Potter” said in the movies? I counted 107 but then I did fall asleep a lot.

Is Die Hard a survival movie? I guess so… although I’d say a survival movie would be someone battling against nature or the supernatural not Alan Rickman with a dodgy accent.

Is Cool Runnings a Christmas film? It is in my family.

Why is Rupert Giles called Ripper? Giles gained the nickname Ripper in his younger days when dabbling in the dark arts with five friends. Presumably it is an allusion to Jack the Ripper.

When is Fast Girls out on DVD? It’s out! Sorry we didn’t get to this question sooner.

Where was We Built a Zoo filmed? We Bought a Zoo was filmed in California.

Heroes Season 3 what is with Claire’s hair? Hayden Panettiere cut her hair and so had to wear a terrible, terrible wig.

What is the twist in Cabin in the Woods? There isn’t one.

What episodes of Misfits have sex in them? A lot of them so I wouldn’t watch if you’re too prudish nor skip any episode for fear of a sex deficit.

What football team does Nicholas Hoult support? I don’t know. I’m really sorry.

Who is on the front of After Porn Ends? Mary Carey

Why do people like Doctor Who? It is scary, funny, and has a lot of heart. Also, Karen Gillan is hot.

Is the Life of Pi film made not in non 3D? It was made in 3D so… yes? 3D is not in non 3D.

Why don’t people like Dr Who? They find it childish, silly, and irritating? Stephen knows.

Does After Porn Ends have nudity? Yes. Not one for the family.

How big is Kevin Smith’s fan base approximately? He has over 2 million Twitter followers and one fan who thinks I am a parasite.

How violent is Sightseers? Violent in short bursts with plenty of blood and caved-in skulls. All the deaths are swift though, this is no Hostel.

What happened to Cameron Crowe? He returned! With We Bought a Zoo and Pearl Jam Twenty. I saw neither.

How accurate is Lawless movie? It doesn’t matter, the film is boring as hell.

Is Ethan Hunt married in Ghost Protocol? Yes, to Julia Meade played by Michelle Monaghan.

Is Michael Cera mean? He seems lovely.

Is NOW TV worth it? Certainly not. Though they provide lots of lovely cocktails.

What is the guy’s name from Footloose that plays on Third Rock from the Sun? John Lithgow

Where can I see the complete pilot episode of BBC Lizzie and Sarah? Nowhere legal I’m afraid. Ask your most internet savvy friend and see if they can help.

Is there a disorder consisting of rape, dismembering, necrophilia, and cannibalism? I don’t think that is a disorder. That is you doing unthinkable sexual things to someone before and after killing them and then eating the remains. GET HELP!

How violent is the film I, Anna? “In one scene of violence a man and woman fight before a heavy ornament is used to strike a blow to the head. In another scene the victim of a violent death is found lying on a heavily bloodstained carpet with a bloodied face.”

What is pyjamas party? Attractive young women spend the night together gossiping, playing games, and fighting with pillows in slow motion and skimpy pyjamas. That or you stay up all night watching films at the Prince Charles cinema.

What’s the film about couple gets handcuffed together at a music festival? You Instead

I hope that clears things up. (If you want to see Fassbender’s penis Google will show it to you. The thing terrifies me.)

Misfits Series 3 Finale – TV Review

This review covers the final two episodes (3×07 & 3×08) of Misfits series three as a two-parter.

It was only a matter of time before Misfits “went zombie”. The gang has saved the world from bible-bashers, milkmen and Nazis amongst others, so why not zombies? You could almost see the apocalypse coming a mile away with Seth’s deep desire to bring back his dead girlfriend; but this episode gives The Walking Dead  and even our own Charlie Brooker’s Dead Set a ruthless run for their money.

There are only a few shows that could turn a Victoria sponge into a catalyst for fifty minutes of high-octane and hilariously intense zombie-killing action, and Misfits is definitely one of them. Kicking off with Curtis realizing the awesomeness of his new power to bring folks back from the dead he engages in some anti-racist squabble with an old lady when he attempts to revive her recently run-over cat. Only for Mr Miggles (*guffaw*) to later eat his endearing owner’s face and turn her into a zombie – cue the end of the world. Read on after the jump – expect spoilers.

Misfits 3×06 TV Review

I can’t remember just how many episodes of Misfits are sex-related. I am 99% sure that sex has been prominent for at least a minute of every episode thus far. And it’s also a tad odd when you realise that there have actually only been 16 episodes as of this week’s. Regardless, 3×06 kicks off with Rudy trying it on with about forty women at a drunken party using some of the best chat up lines ever created. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve used a couple similar to Rudy’s excellent verbal gifts such as “your hair smells like crayons, I love the smell of crayons, it reminds me of happy times like my childhood.” Sometimes they work – honest.

This episode also saw Seth and Kelly finally get funkay as well as Curtis (or Melissa) discovering that he/she is pregnant. *Inception noise* Read on after the jump – expect spoilers.

Misfits 3×05 TV Review

Misfits doesn’t really go out of its way to develop new characters; newbies are usually redshirts/bantha fodder/disposable nobodies who end up being killed, or they serve as superpower-of-the-week type characters – so it’s good to know that whatever the show is doing with Seth (that man who Kelly fancies and can give and take people’s powers) means he’s here to stay. Hell, a man who can give and take powers from people could come in handy, no? Well not in this episode, but he will later. Read on after the jump – spoilers follow.

Misfits 3×03 and 3×04 – TV Review

After not posting a review of last week’s Misfits due to my busy schedule I was going to lighten my workload and offer you a cheat review like this. Instead I’m going to be nice and review both last and this week’s incredibly epic episodes back-to-back.

First up is 3×3 and we’re finally back to Simon’s future destiny to save Alisha storyline. Perhaps the best part about this episode is that despite the ASBO Five running amok wearing superhero costumes in a previous episode this is the first time that there is a true superhero vibe throughout a story. Well, there’s always a bit of superhero backbone whenever the Simon gets to hold everyone’s attention but 3×3 saw Simon as a celebrated hero, complete with his own psychotic version of Dick Tracy (or Robin of the Batman lore). Read on after the jump.

Misfits 3×02 – TV Review

Misfits 3x2 Mel and Curtis

Okay – we’ve watched Nathan shag a hottie who turned into a saggy pensioner; Kelly fiercely go at it with a guy who morphed into a gorilla and now we’ve watched rapid-sex-change fornication… is there nothing this show won’t stop at to scare/surprise/thoroughly entertain us? And more importantly; given that I find Melissa/Curtis attractive does this mean I like men now?! Read on after the break.

Misfits 3×01 – TV Review

It’s been ten months since the group tackled a not-so-nice Jesus impersonator before deciding to Swap Shop their powers during the Christmas special last year, but Misfits is finally back! The third series has kicked off in true Misfits fashion with a cleverly OTT opener that attempts to boggle our brains and keep us edge-of-our-seats entertained as well.

There is always an overpowering worry with a new season of a television show that it somehow just won’t live up to the standards that it has set before itself. That worry is increased exponentially when the actor playing the proverbial glue that holds the show’s characters together decides to leave the show. We can’t blame Robert Sheehan, who played Nathan, for wanting to move on to better things and a lot of the blame for the show going downhill could have been pinned on that decision if the show had suffered at all. Read on after the break and expect episode spoilers.
